Evergreen Christmas Dress: Vogue V1558

Hey guys! If you’re waiting for the results of #coatgate, I’m afraid you’ve got a little waiting to do. I finally got my hands on the lining and interfacing, so it should come soon, but I’m really taking my time with this one. Until then, before I had my grubby mitts on the coat lining, I popped out a sweet evergreen christmas dress out of the Rachel Comey for Vogue Patterns V1558.

I’ve been oogling this pattern since it came out. I had dreams to make a sheer stretch mesh dark green version, but honestly this dress was a last minute decision and I was at the whim of my local Joann Fabrics for this one. The fabric I used is super weird… it’s a thick double knit with a kind of spongey texture I don’t love, but it works. You can kind of see in the photos that it’s a heavy fabric. I would prefer to style it with a belt but god i can’t find any accessories in my house right now.

I was pleasantly surprised by how quick this dress came together. I did a 1” FBA distributed amongst the two centermost darts and i’m pretty happy with the fit. I always underestimate the ease in big 4 patterns so even though I sized down for the FBA I still had trouble with the fit being too large. Also I’m sure you can tell if you look hard enough that the pleats in the skirt don’t exactly line up with the pleats on the bodice. I’m currently looking for a better way to transfer marks inside the pattern to my pieces because I had a real mess of a time figuring out the pleats on this skirt with scissors and a shitty chalk pencil. What’s up with that though? Why do big box stores sell SUCH SHITTY MARKING TOOLS???

It’s becoming painfully obvious that I don’t know how to pose in photos. LUCKY FOR YOU NERDS i’m literally taking a posing class at the rockets brainery at the end of this month. I genuinely hope this class is just as awkward as it appears to be, will report back.
Be sure to tell me what you made for christmas this year! I totally forgot to take pictures before I gave them out, but I made everyone in my family placemats for christmas!
