My Funny Valentine: Russian Red Vogue 9291
Hey Guys! I'm so excited to share my red valentines set with you all. I made this set in January for a retro style photoshoot for a local magazine. The photos won't get published until March or April but I still wanted to show you what I made!
I've got to be totally honest with you on this one: I NEVER would have figured out how cute this pattern would have been without Allie making it first. Her navy holiday set was absolutely stunning and totally inspired this red version. I saw it and was like hell yes, put that on my body. My boobs look a little different than hers, but I think it's actually a very rare no bra look for me.
The pattern itself was a pleasure to make. If you've seen the cover of this pattern and thought gosh darn this is the ugliest set of pointless accessories i've ever seen, you would not be wrong. V9291 is an absolute mess of weird stuff but this bolero style top (probably meant to be a wrap over a strapless dress) is a shining beacon of light. It's simple to make, has beautiful finishes, and includes bound seams in the instructions. I did a 1" adjustment distributed between the front peats and it was a relatively simple and successful adjustment. If I made it again I would probably lower the length of the back and lengthen the straps so I have a more dramatic bow.
On a personal note: I'm literally never making another fucking gathered skirt again. This skirt took me 4 hours longer than intended, BROKE MY SEWING MACHINE, and i don't even think it looks nice!!!! I should have just made a circle skirt!!!! As an act of self care I refuse to do this nonsense again.
Let me know if you made a special outfit for valentines- whether it's a dress or a pair of sweatpants! If you know a florist personally you know that we work our asses off for the week before valentines and then need a hard nap afterwords, so Sam and I probably won't be celebrating until later this month. Let me know what your plans are in the comments below!
