Life updates: There’s a lot going on.
There’s a lot of stuff going on in my life that I’ve wanted to update you on but haven’t felt that it’s been the right time. I’m covering a lot of stuff in this post so if you want an in-depth post about any of these things let me know.
To start: Sam and I are moving again in July. We’ve found a really superbly lovely loft in a great part of town here in Rochester and I’m just so chuffed about it. It’s right near our public market and Sam’s workshop and guys it is PRETTY TO LOOK AT. My plan at this point is to make this be a REAL ADULT APARTMENT that is DECORATED and a HAPPY PLACE TO BE. I feel like until this point I have been resting my laurels on the college phase of life where you just accept that you’re super poor and your house is full of weird shit and you never feel happy about the way it looks. For god sakes, we don’t even have a bed frame. But guys, I’m committed to a bed frame AND i’m trying to convince Sam to let us put the bed in the middle of a wall (i.e. instead of pushed up against a corner) with bedside tables on EITHER SIDE like fucking adults. I have literally so many days planned for this house and I’m sure you’ll see them popping up here on this blog asap. I’ve got an entire accent chair I’m going to attempt to recover (not only just recover, but straight up dye the fabric too. lol wish a bitch luck.) and a duvet cover to dye and apparently Sam is making us a headboard. I’m trying to think of a quaint name for a series of house updates, so let me know in the comments if you have any ideas!
I’m getting my first “big” tattoo in August and I’m so excited. I’m going to Pam Carol who is my favorite artist and I’m so lucky she is not only local in Rochester but that she likes my ideas enough to work with me on them. I’m wondering if anyone who reads my blog is interested in the body mod (blech, I hate that phrase so much) part of my life. But I have a couple of tattoos set up for the rest of the year along with a couple of piercings. I’d love to do QCKND’s tattoo tag here on this blog if anyone is interested in that kind of thing.
I have a new job! If you don’t follow me on Instagram you may not know that I’ve taken on the position of Class Coordinator at Rochester Brainery! For nonlocals or people who have never heard of a Brainery, it’s a community education center where we teach all kinds of classes- from sushi making to knitting 101 to modern calligraphy. It’s been a little crazy adjusting to the realness of two jobs (you don’t get out of the family business that easily!) but I’m really loving the opportunity to connect with creative people in the community. This has had an- odd effect on my sewing. On one hand, my free time is cut in half. On the other hand, I really have started using my time more efficiently and organizing my projects more effectively. Weird how life works like that!
The last of the updates is the most awkward to talk about and I’ve literally been avoiding it for 6 months. Starting in November of 2017 I changed my eating and started excersizing regularly. There were a lot of things prompting this big life change but the biggest of these was just a dissatisfaction with the utility of my body. I could write pages and pages on both why I am personally trying to loose weight, why I feel awkward about talking about it on the internet, and why I haven’t really publicly announced it. I personally haven’t felt like it would be a super positive thing to discuss in frequency on instagram on my blog, but this opinion also stems from my conditioned opinions based on diet culture and the monetization of fat bodies and encouraging them to loose weight through shame. So this is me coming out: Hi, I’m Mary. I’ve been eating low carb for 6 months, doing cardio, and lost 40 pounds currently. I’m extremely happy with my progress and there are so many sweet highs I want to share with you on this blog. I would love to take you on this journey with me- sharing recipes and progress along the way. As someone who has made a space for herself in the plus size sewing community and is now fitting into straight store bought sizes and smaller pattern sizes, I can understand if this change makes you a little wary. I hope to continue to share my journey with you- be it weight loss, body changes, sewing things, styling outfits, tattoos, life growth and more. I appreciate it if you hang along for the ride.
